Hi.

Welcome to John's Hot Dog Blog. I eat hot dogs and write about them.

Jim's Ole Time Hot Dogs

Jim's Ole Time Hot Dogs

Being a homeowner, Saturday's are often reserved for projects around the house and inevitably a trip (or two) to Lowe's Home Improvement. The Lowe's Home Improvement in Cary, NC off of Walnut Street is special for one specific reason: Jim's Ole Time Hot Dogs. A staple for over 20 years, Jim's Ole Time Hot Dogs offers DIYers and Contractors stopping in for lumber, tools, etc. a delicious treat after they've acquired their goods.

Jim's offers a simple, but scrumptious selection of Hot Dogs as seen in the image above. Today I review the classic Red Dog and the Jalapeno Dog. Bring on the dogs!

The hot dogs are served wrapped in foil if you get them to-go, which stays true to the Hot Dog Stand asthetic.

First off, the Red Dog:
All dogs at Jim's Ole Time Hot Dogs are served to order, meaning you pick the toppings.  Being born and raised in the south, my go to is mustard, chili, and onion (yes, without slaw). The staffers at Jim's are experts in laying down dog toppings, so the ratios are nearly perfect! The classic red dog has a decent snap, and is cooked perfect. My selected toppings, being my personal favorite, only add to the deliciousness.

1) The Bun: Steamed, and soft
2) The Dog: Classic Red Dog, cooked perfectly with a great "Snap"
3) The Toppings: Mustard, Chili, Onion
Rating: 🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭 - 8 dogs out of 10! A near perfect hot dog experience.  The bun to dog ratio was just slightly off (shown below) -- a problem nearly impossible to perfect -- and I would have liked a bit more chili to compliment the onions. That said, for $2 USD, and for the less picky dog eater, this could easily be a 10 out of 10 hot dog.

Next up, the Jalapeno dog:
Again, with dogs at Jim's being made to order, I decided to keep my topics the same in order for a fair comparison. I'm an absolute spice fan, I love hotness, especially flavorful hotness that you get from using a pepper like a Jalapeno.  Jim's jalapeno dog provides an excellent source of flavor and heat.

The Bun: Steamed, and soft
The Dog: All Beef with Jalapeno peppers inside
The Toppings: Mustard, Chili, Onion
Rating: 🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭 8 dogs out of 10!

In closing, even if Lowe's Hardware in Cary is a bit out of your way for your next hardware store run, do yourself a favor and make your way there, just for the hot dogs.
